Google Determines Quality Using Panda
It’s pretty much well known within the search engine optimization space that the Panda algorithm changes are what determines how content quality. Unfortunately is that there are so many different factors that may or may not be a factor that we as website owners can definitively say apply to our content creation methods.
In this video SEO experts Bill Slawski, Ammon Johns, David Harry, Mark Traphagen, and Eric Enge dig deeply into the topic.
Let me warn you a bit here though, these guys are all technical in nature so if you really want to learn all the nuts and bolts they are great guys to follow.
If your new to SEO and the technical aspects of the whole process then you may find yourself lost during a couple portions of the video. Heck, even I had to research a couple of the topics that they were talking about in order to be a bit more clear.
That being said however, you will be able to come away with some different factors that you can apply to your content marketing strategy in order to ensure that your website gets as much traffic as possible from the Google search results.
Some key points that I took out of the video
- The original Panda patent was written as a guideline for Google’s internet team in order to ‘grade’ websites.
- Freshness of content actually has a factor on a per topic basis. i.e. if the topic doesn’t typically result in fresh content being generated then freshness will have less importance.
- Authorship is really a factor in search.
- Is the quality of the content low.
- Does the website have a negative reputation.
- Page layout is a factor.
- Website lacking maintenance or updates is a Panda factor.
- Spelling and Grammar play a small role in Panda.
- Its definitely possible to recover from Panda.
What are your key takeaways from the video?
Don’t Hold Yourself Back From Achieving Your Dreams
Unsuccessful people blame other people for their failures and/or lack of significant success because nothing is harder for people do then look at themselves in the mirror.
By doing so they will realize that the only thing holding them back from achieving their dreams is themselves.
Take a look at your daily activities in your business and ask yourself.
“Is this helping make me better?”
If the answer is no, then why in the world are you doing it?
Or if your a procrastinator type personality like me, why in world aren’t you doing it?
We as human beings fear failure and we fear that when we take risks or actions we are going to look like failures.
And, you are.
But it’s OK.
Failure is a good thing because that is how ninety nine percent of us learn anything, through our failures we find the fastest and easiest way to success.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can not do something. Or what your doing is scam.
Don’t let other people’s limiting beliefs in themselves hinder you in achieving your dreams.
There are people in this world who thrive on the failures of others and work towards their happiness by holding you back from yours.
These are the people that are always there to complain about one thing or another every waking moment of the day while your around.
Then at the next possible moment they are pointing out your flaws to other people in order to show how smart or proficient they are.
These people are nothing but human parasites.
And like most parasites, if the host (that’s you) does something to remove that food that they need to survive (your self doubt or worry) then they starve and fall out of your life.
We all know these killers of dreams and the sooner you separate them out of your life, the better.
I Know That You Fear Failure
Let me tell you something right now that most people in the small business marketing world won’t bother saying just because its the unpopular thing to do.
Your going to fail, and your going to fail a lot.
The fact of the matter is that no matter how much you plan.
No matter how well you factor in every possible event that can happen when starting your business.
Your going to have failures.
Your first product might not sell as well as you hoped, or even at all.
Your first call to a potential client might not turn into a subscriber to your services.
Your first website might not get an ounce of traffic from anywhere.
Your lead capture pages might not catch anything more than dust.
Your going to fail.
And you fear that failure.
You hold yourself back from trying out new things, from buying new courses, from building new websites. You hold yourself back because of your fear.
Failure Is Progress
Failure is progress.
Let me say it again, failure is progress.
When you fail you learn ways that don’t work in that particular situation.
You learn words that push your clients away.
You learn design elements that keep your website visitors from signing up to your email list.
You learn copy that doesn’t convert to sales.
Failure is progress because it teaches you what doesn’t work.
So the next time that you take on a project.
Or the next website you design.
Or the next sales letter you write your more confident.
You’ll know more about performing that task.
You know that with your last failure your one step closer to gaining the success that your looking for.
What I know about you is that you have greatness within you that other people only wish they had.
Push Yourself to Be Better
There are tons of motivation videos all over the internet these days. Most of them are pretty darn good too.
Have you noticed that a lot of them are geared towards athletes?
This is because those who are pursuing some sort of athletic event are always having to break through plateaus in their training.
Weight lifters get to a certain point where their routine is not working for them any more. The results that they are seeing seems to stagnate.
So these men and women ask change their routines, add in a new exercise, or even increase the intensity to build endurance, they say push yourself.
Runners fall into this same trap as well.
I used to run 7 miles a day, it typically took me 45 minutes to do it.
Over time however I wasn’t improving. Sure the seven miles was easier every time I did it.
But that same 7 miles always took me that same 45 minutes.
I had to push myself harder every day just to shave that 10 or 15 seconds off my run.
I had to push myself to be better
Push Yourself to Be Better In Business
You have to understand that in the business environment its pretty much the same way.
That is why these athletic themed motivational videos resonate with you so well.
If your in any kind of business you always have to be testing.
You always have to be working to make your current products better.
You always have to be working to make new products that do something others can not. Or in a way others are not.
You always have to push yourself to make your business something better.
If you chose not to do that, your business will die.
No, probably not over night, but slowly and as surely as the wind blows your customers will leave you.
They will leave you for those that are following the mantra, push yourself.
Push yourself in your marketing.
Push yourself in your outreach.
Push yourself in your product development.
Push yourself in your customer service.
When you do, your customers will push your business to new height you probably couldn’t have imagined in the beginning.
Listen To Think and Grow Rich With Me
I have long had this book on my iPod, it’s in my Kindle application. However the habit of reading has always been an on again/off again affair. Reading the book Think and Grow Rich is just one of those things that I started, and never quite got around to finishing.
However thanks to the joy of the internet, now we can listen to the book being read to us while we do other stuff.
Think of is as getting in your personal development time in while running, walking, being lazy on the couch, or while doing working on something else.
The benefit hear is you can rewind or listen to the whole thing over and over again if you want.
Sometimes You Need To Read To Fully Understand
Have you ever watched a movie about something and the topic really interested you.
Because of that interest you went out and purchased the book about it and read it. In doing so you were able to visualize the points that the author was making better.
That is how listening to this audio book of Think and Grow Rich is.
Sure you get something out of listening, however, some of the key points might not sink in as well as we would all like.
I would like to encourage you to take into account that we all seem to learn better when were are taking a more active role in the whole process.
The idea of just sitting back and listening to a voice over the speakers is convenient.
But taking an active role by reading the book for yourself can, and usually does, create thought patterns in you mind that allow you to directly relate the topic to your business and life as your going through the discovery process.
Pick up a copy of Think and Grow Rich either in Kindle or book form. You won’t be disappointed and its a great addition to your library.
Insights On What Rich People Know
There are a lot of people running around the marketing world who would love to know what rich people know that they don’t. I am sure you are one of them, I know I am, because we look at them and wonder.
Mainly we wonder, what does that person know that I don’t? What is the secret to success that they found that I didn’t?
The thing is I don’t think there really is a secret.
You already know what you need to do, its just sometimes its good to be reminded so that your mindset is right.
Growing a business and becoming rich (whatever that definition is to you) is based on some simple fundamentals.
Some Things You Can Do Now
The video above is actually one of the longer ones that I have shared for quite some time.
I actually found it on accident while I was supposed to be working on another project.
(You know how that is, getting all carried away watching video’s on YouTube)
From what I can tell it was supposed to be a video that went with a product.
Lucky for us though, they allowed this particular one to stay up.
I say lucky because irregardless of how long it is, the information inside it is great. The speaker works hard to keep you engaged throughout.
More importantly, the way that he presents the information is perfect.
I know that I have heard almost all of these concepts at one point or another. I’m sure you have too.
Its good though for us all to hear them again and be reminded that we should be reading every day.
We should be surrounding ourselves with people who are where we want to be. Not with people who are in the same stages of their businesses that we are.
Plus many more.
Watch or just listen to the video and leave a comment about the one thing that resonated with you the most.
Warrior Event Allows Warrior Forum Members to Finally Meet
Truth be told the Warrior Event is more than just getting members of the Warrior Forum together in a live settings. It as about establishing relationships with other people who are also trying to make a living online using internet marketing.
Small business owner’s attend the event in hope of learning just on strategy that could take their business from where it is today, to something better or bigger.
With outstanding speakers on the stage it’s no wonder that the Warrior Forum was purchased and has undergone significant changes to make it better.
Who Spoke At Warrior Event 2014?
The Warrior Event is actually a two day affair with some of the top marketers in the industry taking part.
This is a significant change from previous years when members of the Warrior forum hoped to just meet some of the more active members inside the forum.
This year they had the opportunity to here from internet marketers like E. Brian Rose, Tellman Knudson, Bryan Zimmerman, and Ryan McKinney.
All of these gentlemen have easily created six figure incomes in there area of expertise so clearly there is something for everyone in the recordings. Which is clearly displayed in the video above which is an excerpt from the Day 1 panel.
On day 2 attendees we treated to presentations by Heather Claus, Joel Comm, Eric Louviere, and Nick Lapolla (the man behind Simple Video Pro). There was also a second day Experts panel that gave out tons of great information.
Some People Just Couldn’t Be There Live
You do not need to be told the value of attending events live.
It really more about the people that you meet at live events then it is the information you recieve in presentations after all.
However, some people here that and discount the value that can be had just by listening to the speakers. Somewhere in there is an idea that could take you from being a person who makes 100 dollars a month online to 100,000 dollars a month provided you implemented it.
The trouble is most people who are just starting out online either don’t have the time or the money to take a trip somewhere and attend all the great live events that are going on out there, the Warrior Event included.
Well here is your chance to at least review the information that is available via 14 high quality recordings of all the presentations and expert panels at Warrior Event 2014.
Get It Up!
The fact of the matter is that if you have been learning any type of marketing for more than a month, you have a product in you. Think about it, how many products have you bought and went through only to realize that you know most of the information in them already.
That is because most product creators develop products based on one or two methods.
The first method it to create products based on research. What I mean is, they identified a problem. Found a simple solution to that problem. Then created a product to sell that solution to other people who are having the same problem.
The second method is to sell information that you have collected in your own business to help you grow.
Have you gotten really good at Facebook ads? Create a course on what your doing to get your results.
Are you awesome at selling real estate through the use of video’s? There you go, you have a course.
Writing engaging content on your website about a specific topic, perhaps in the form of a series? Turn that series into an ebook or video’s and sell that as a product.
I know the thought of product creation is scary. I personally went through the ups and downs of getting it up when I created my first product.
It was a course about how to use Facebook groups and pages in order to generate more targeted traffic to your website, while also improving your SEO.
I used the second method to create my product. I learned a new technique, I implemented it and found that it worked, then I turned that knowledge into a Warrior Forum Special Offer and sold it.
I didn’t make tons of money on the course, maybe 200 bucks when it was all said and done. However, the course only took a couple days to make, imagine if I made one every other day.
Push It In!
When you finally get off your butt and get your produced created its time to push it in to the marketplace.
This is probably the easiest step if your involved in an active niche. Just start advertising it on your forums, or perhaps, get involved in a Joint Venture and have affiliates sell it for you.
Sure you will lose out on 100% of the profits, but your name will be out there. Your brand recognition will increase. And your list will be a lot bigger than it was when you first started.
Sure there are going to be products that you create that won’t make you a dime. That’s ok, turn them into optin gifts on your website.
There will also be products that will sell like hot cakes and make you a ton of money.
Turn those in membership site products. If you have more than one keep adding them to your membership site.
When you launch a new one your current members are offered it first at a discount. Then your new customers will be offered it at full price, with an upsell to your membership site to get all your other products for a monthly fee.
So go out, get it up, and push it in!!
Can Your Site Get Ranked Without Links?
There has been an ever increasing debate between content marketers and search engine optimization professionals on whether or not you could manage to get your websites ranked without links in the search engines. Obviously the primary place they want to get this accomplished is on Google. Unfortunately these two groups of proponents can’t seem to come up with an answer they can both agree on. Thus leaving the small business marketing professional new to the online space scratching their head in frustration.
So let me give you my opinion and hopefully it helps at least give you some perspective on my thought process when it comes to implementing an SEO strategy for your websites.
First, I want to ensure you that I am a proponent for high quality content.
That’s why you have seen that my content that I have been publishing lately (Sunday night, Monday morning) has actually been a lot longer and more detailed that my long time readers are used to.
That is because readers are expecting more and more in the way of high quality content that is thorough and complete. Thus, I tackle topics and provide what I think is the most in-depth answer.
I also provide on my site shorter posts that are also high quality usually in conjunction with video’s that I have found for you. These posts are typically posted on Wednesday’s or Thursdays, and are there to keep you focused on your personal development or to simple pass on some news.
Clearly I have the high quality content piece down.
Sadly thought, not one person will see my site unless I promote it.
You Can Get a Site Ranked Without Links Through Promotion
The cornerstone of my SEO strategy is, and always has been, the promotion of my website in order to drive traffic.
Sure getting a site ranked on the first page of Google is awesome and other people will bow down to you in respect if you can do it.
All of that ability doesn’t mean anything though if your ranking for words that don’t drive highly targeted traffic to your website.
And he search engines, combined with proper SEO, can bring you that traffic over the long term. Only if, however, you take search engine optimization into account when your writing your content and optimizing your web pages.
Link building today is no longer about how many links you can get to your website with the same keyword. That method doesn’t work anymore. And quite frankly I am glad. After all how is a small business owner supposed to compete with a big corporation who can feasibly generation millions of links a day if they wanted to.
Today link building is about promoting yourself or your business on high quality sites in a manner that is both respectful and engaging to the consumer.
More simple, link building today is about promotion of your website.
Think about this.
You just created this awesome high quality piece of content to your site and posted a link on your Facebook page. You just made a link.
You sent an email through your autoresponder, Aweber actually turns your email into a web page. You just made a link.
You submit your link to StumbleUpon, that site always provides traffic. You just made a link.
Now you want to hear something funny.
If your creating links to promote your content in order to increase traffic to your website, you’re not in violation of Google’s Webmaster guidelines.
If you promote your link to hundreds of high traffic sites in order to get as much traffic as possible from them, you’re not in violation of Google’s webmaster guidelines.
If you promote your link to the same hundreds of high traffic sites in order to get as much linking power to rank higher in the search engines, you are in violation of Google’s Webmaster guidelines.
Don’t you think that’s just a bit…….
The content marketers who are saying don’t build links, just create good stuff wouldn’t.
To sum it all up in today’s market you simply can not ignore search engine optimization UNLESS you have a really good advertising budget in order to promote your content.
Even then, when your paying for content to be seen either through AdWords, Facebook, or Press Releases your essentially paying to get links on the same high authority sites that you would have gotten doing SEO.
Think about it, what would you rather do?
Pay to have an ad up on a site in your niche, or write a high quality piece of content for that site with a link to your website?
The ad your paying for will stop sending you traffic when you stop paying money.
The content piece you created will potentially send you traffic the WHOLE TIME THAT LINK IS UP!! PLUS you get the SEO benefits of having that link there as well, potentially improving your rankings, thus providing highly targeted traffic to your website.
So, can a site be ranked without links, yes it can. However, it won’t rank on the first page, much less in the first position without continued link building through the natural promotion of your content.
